Diamondbacks set new franchise home run record against Phillies

Make no question about it.
The Arizona Diamondbacks brought an offensive power storm to Philadelphia Monday night.
With eight home runs, the team set a new single-game franchise record against the Phillies.
The best part?
The team originally broke the old record of six homers in just five innings of play, as seven of the team’s first 10 hits were dingers.
From the start, the D-backs looked poised to go deep throughout the evening.

In only the second time in franchise history, the first three batters in the lineup — Jarrod Dyson, Ketel Marte and David Peralta — all homered consecutively to start the game.
That first-inning barrage was a sign of things to come as the bats came back around in the fourth.
After the Phillies tied things at 3-3, D-backs third baseman Eduardo Escobar stepped up and connected, sending a two-run blast to right field.

The scoring in the fourth wasn’t over there, however, as Alex Avila extended the lead even further just two batters later, bringing in Christian Walker on another two-run moonshot.
Escobar continued to make an impact for the D-backs in the fifth inning.

Taking Phillies reliever Ranger Suarez deep, Escobar notched his second home run of the evening, this one 421 feet to left field.
With his second swing for the fences, Escobar became the first D-back to homer from different sides of the plate in consecutive innings. He now has six multi-career home runs.
But before the Phillies fans could even retrieve the ball, another one was getting sent into the stands.

With no one on and two outs, Ildemaro Vargas helped etched the team in the D-backs history books, roping Arizona’s seventh homer of the night.
Vargas kept the juices flowing in the top of the ninth inning.

The second baseman turned on the first pitch he saw, sending a laser 409 feet into left for his second homer of the game. Entering play Monday night, Vargas had just two home runs this season.
With the ninth-inning blast, the D-backs became the first team in MLB history to score eight home runs in a game after allowing eight home runs in the same season (March 28 against the Los Angeles Dodgers).
