Yasmany Tomas’ stint with the major league club was short lived.
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Thursday afternoon the team optioned Tomas to Triple-A Reno.
In addition, Arizona reinstated Kevin Cron from the 10-day injured list Wednesday night and optioned the infielder to Reno. Cron had been on the mend with right elbow inflammation.
Tomas, 28, has appeared in four games with the D-backs this season, recording his first start since 2017 last Tuesday. Over that span, the INF/OF went 0-for-6. In 98 games with the Aces, the Pacific Coast League midseason All-Star and Triple-A Home Run Derby winner is hitting .305 with 29 homers, 80 RBIs and 23 doubles. He holds a .341 OBP and .603 SLG.
Cron played in a rehab game in the AZL Wednesday night, going 1-for-4 with a two-run homer. In 27 games in the majors, Cron is hitting .207 with five bombs, 15 RBIs and 10 runs scored. He was also named a midseason All-Star in the PCL as a member of the Aces.
He’s hitting .338 in Triple-A, with 29 homers, 80 RBIs and 40 walks.
The moves come following a busy MLB trade deadline for a team that saw ace pitcher Zack Greinke head to Houston, with the D-backs adding two arms in Zac Gallen and Mike Leake.
