Winning has eluded Arizona Cardinals quarterback and No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft Kyler Murray through Week 3 of his rookie season, but putting up big numbers throwing the ball has not.
Despite the slow start for the Cardinals, Murray has made a case for himself as an early favorite to win the NFL Rookie of the Year award.
He was the odds on favorite at most sportsbooks until New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones hit the field on Sunday and led the Giants to a come-from-behind win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
With a win on his resume, Jones leapfrogged Murray on DraftKings and Foxbet as the Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite, while PointsBet and FanDuel still list Murray with the best odds.
Player/Site | DraftKings | FoxBet | PointsBet | FanDuel |
---|---|---|---|---|
Kyler Murray | +350 | +320 | +250 | +220 |
Daniel Jones | +200 | +225 | +300 | +260 |
Jones threw for 353 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and rushed for two more touchdowns on five carries for 33 yards.
Through three games Murray has 830 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions and 86 rushing yards.
Jones, however, has three fumbles compared to zero for Murray.
Other rookies garnering attention in the Offensive ROY race include Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown, Raiders running back Josh Jacobs and Bears running back David Montgomery.
The only other rookie quarterback to receive significant playing time is Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew.
Since 2013, Dak Prescott was the only quarterback to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2016.
