The Arizona Cardinals feel good about their three-headed unit at running back, and that will spell the end of veteran Zach Zenner’s time with the team.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to report that Arizona would release Zenner a day after he was a healthy scratch for the Cardinals’ 34-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The team made the move official later Monday morning.

Zenner and fellow running back Alfred Morris inked with Arizona on Oct. 23 as injuries hit David Johnson and then-third-stringer D.J. Foster.

Since, Morris was released and Zenner only recorded a single carry in each of three separate games for a total of -2 yards. He also caught two passes for 19 yards.

Zenner, 28, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions (2015-18) and to start this year appeared in one game with the New Orleans Saints before being released.

With Zenner inactive Sunday, the Cardinals had a relatively healthy running back trio of Kenyan Drake, David Johnson and Chase Edmonds suited up against Los Angeles.

Drake took 51 snaps to Johnson’s 15, while Edmonds did not appear on offense.

Edmonds, who is coming off a hamstring injury, did appear on 13 special teams plays.
