The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday they have placed defensive lineman Rodney Gunter on injured reserve due to a toe injury he suffered in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh. In a corresponding move, the team has re-signed defensive lineman Caraun Reid.

Gunter, 27, has started all 13 games for Arizona and has been one of the most important pieces on a defensive line that lost Robert Nkemdiche and Darius Philon before the regular season. Gunter had 31 total tackles and three sacks in 2019 after a career-high 4.5 last season.

Gunter was a fourth-round pick by the Cardinals in 2015 and has played all five of his NFL seasons in Arizona.

A free agent last offseason, Gunter re-signed with the Cardinals on a one-year deal and will go back into free agency.

Reid has had an eventful week. He was originally signed by the Cardinals on Dec. 4, only to be released on Saturday in order to make room for cornerback Jalen Davis to move up from the practice squad.

Reid is a 28-year-old defensive tackle who has played 44 NFL games over parts of five seasons with three different franchises (Lions, Chargers, Cowboys). He has yet to appear in an NFL game this year, but he was with the Indianapolis Colts during the preseason before his release on Aug. 31.
