Mortensen: Cards in top five for Manning

Mar 9, 2012, 1:29 AM | Updated: 2:18 am

ESPN analyst Chris Mortensen, who broke the news about
Peyton Manning’s release a day before his press conference
with the Indianapolis Colts, said that the Cardinals are a
top five candidate to land Manning’s services.

“I would be shocked if he and Ken (Whisenhunt) have not
have had a phone conversation at least in the last 24
hours,” Mortensen told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf
Thursday.

Manning’s release became official Wednesday, and now the
guessing game has begun on who will be the perfect fit for
the former Colt.

“I really get a sense that this thing is going to happen
fairly quick. We’ve said within seven days, I mean I can
feel it within three or four days,” Mortensen said. “I
assure you he has had some personal discussions with
maybe, you would say, the priority teams in his mind.
