Herm Edwards’ coaching staff at Arizona State is reportedly losing one of its most important pieces.

ASU defensive line coach Jamar Cain is set to become the new outside linebackers coach at Oklahoma, per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

Cain has a reputation as one of the best recruiters in the Pac-12 conference and was only with the Sun Devils for one season. That position has been a revolving door at ASU, as the replacement for Cain will be the sixth straight new defensive line coach.

Per’s Chris Karpman, Cain is responsible for some of ASU’s biggest signings in a great 2020 recruiting class, including four-star running back Daniyel Ngata, four-star wide receiver Elijhah Badger and four-star defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott.

Karpman notes that Cain has been incredibly productive recruiting specifically in northern California, where he’s had more success than just about anyone before at ASU, which is significant given the amount of high school football talent in the area.

Cain’s departure continues a makeover for the defensive side. Defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales accepted the head coaching job at New Mexico and was replaced by cornerbacks coach Tony White.
