Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Leake was absent the first day of spring training due to left wrist soreness, manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Wednesday.

“He had some left wrist soreness that was found out last night at his physical, so he is off to get a precautionary MRI right now,” Lovullo said.

When asked what happened, Lovullo said Leake “had a fall at home. It wasn’t baseball-related.”

The D-backs acquired Leake at the trade deadline last season. He pitched in 10 games for Arizona, going 3-3 with a 4.35 ERA.

Over his 10-year career, six of which were with the Cincinnati Reds, Leake is 105-98 with a 4.05 ERA.

Arizona has plenty of pitching depth if Leake is out for a significant period of time.

Madison Bumgarner and Robbie Ray are assuredly starters. Luke Weaver does not have any restrictions moving forward after missing almost four months last year with injury, Lovullo said. Zac Gallen pitched very well after being trading to Arizona. Other rotation options include Merrill Kelly, Alex Young, Jon Duplantier and Taylor Clarke.

Lovullo said all D-backs pitchers except Leake were at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Wednesday.

The rest of the team reports to spring training on Monday. The first game will be against the Colorado Rockies on Feb. 22 with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
