Lego stadium-builder constructs mini version of D-backs’ Chase Field

A Bay Area sports fan who has a hobby of rebuilding real-life stadiums out of Legos most recently constructed Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, a set fans can purchase for themselves.

Ryan Anderson, who told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station through direct message on Twitter that he is a New York Mets fan, said he spent four days and roughly 25 hours to complete Chase Field, formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. It’s constructed with 3,445 pieces.

“The first day is color-coordinating all of the different pieces,” Anderson said. “The other three days were spent building up the stadium.

“I was going to visit a friend in Philadelphia and I had a long layover in Phoenix. It was kind of a happy accident that gave me enough time to catch a game at Chase Field. I loved the stadium, it was a beautiful ballpark. I remember when I was shopping for these stadiums, I looked for ones I have either visited or that look challenging to build and Chase Field met both goals.”

Anderson isn’t a designer or a builder; he works at a bank in San Francisco. But he has built numerous stadiums already: Camden Yards, Oracle Park, Lincoln Financial Field, Tiger Stadium (LSU), LA Memorial Coliseum, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden and Century Link Field.

“I would say Century Link Field was the hardest, it was 5,369 pieces to build,” he said.
