ASU football to add Donnie Henderson to coaching staff

Arizona State football will add former NFL assistant coach Donnie Henderson to its coaching staff, co-defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis confirmed on Thursday.
Henderson’s addition was first reported by The Athletic’s Doug Haller, who said Henderson would be an analyst.
“We’ve got … one other guy coming, Donnie, who worked for me and with me,” Lewis said after mentioning the hire of Robert Rodriguez as defensive line coach.
Henderson was on the New York Jets coaching staff as the defensive coordinator for part of Herm Edwards’ tenure there as head coach. He also previously coached defensive backs at Arizona State in the 1990s and was an assistant defensive backs coach with the Baltimore Ravens while Lewis was their defensive coordinator.

Henderson also coached the Arizona Cardinals defensive backs in 2009 and 2010.
ASU football starts spring football practices on Monday, doing so with a wealth of new faces on the coaching staff following offseason turnover.
Under third-year head coach Herm Edwards, the Sun Devils now have new co-defensive coordinators in Lewis and Antonio Pierce, as well as a new offensive coordinator in Zak Hill, who came from Boise State.
“We’re trying to work hard at collaborating on everything and we’re putting things together in a very quick manner,” Lewis said. “And basically day-by-day. So getting the structure done of what we want to do and move forward and add as we move forward.”
