College coaches, not allowed to recruit, are likely doing what many other people forced to stay home are: watching a little more television.
Stadium reporter Jeff Goodman asked all the NCAA Div. 1 men’s basketball head coaches what their favorite movies and TV shows are.
There’s clearly a theme in the Hurley family.
Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley and his brother, Connecticut coach Dan Hurley, both said their favorite movie is Cinderella Man, starring Russell Crowe as James J. Braddock, a heavyweight boxer who became champion in the 1930s.
Dan Hurley has even mentioned that movie in the past, telling the New York Post in 2018 that he made teams at previous stops Wagner and Rhode Island watch the movie.
“You just reminded me, I need to make these guys watch that movie,” he said in the Post’s Q&A.
It’s unclear if he ever did, nor if Bobby Hurley has made his ASU team watch it.
The Hurleys differ on TV show preference, though. Bobby’s favorite is Game of Thrones while Dan likes Curb Youth Enthusiasm.
Arizona head coach Sean Miller, meanwhile, said his favorite TV show is Seinfeld and movie is Good Will Hunting.
Those choices are shared by another coach in the Pac-12: Colorado’s Tad Boyle.
Those two and Dana Altman all chose Seinfeld, meaning that show is the favorite of a quarter of the Pac-12. In total, 31 coaches chose Seinfeld.
Bobby Hurley was one of 10 coaches to select Game of Thrones, while 10 picked Dan Hurley’s choice of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The most-chosen move? The Shawshank Redemption, which was selected by 41 coaches.
