Could the Arizona Cardinals start a streak of consecutive NFL Rookie of the Year awards?

Oddsmakers think its not out of the realm of possibility after quarterback Kyler Murray took home the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honor in 2019. Isaiah Simmons, the eighth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, could make some immediate noise for the Arizona Cardinals, according to BetOnline.

The gambling service has the Clemson hybrid defender holding the second-best odds (+450) to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Simmons only comes in behind Washington Redskins pass-rusher Chase Young (+200), the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The chances of Young taking home the award aren’t as great as you might think despite his likely role as a starter. The first defensive players selected in the last 20 drafts have only won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year five times.

Last year’s second overall pick, Nick Bosa, went after Murray and ended up being an exception to that trend as he had little competition from fellow rookie defenders.

Simmons, however, will be playing under unique circumstances considering he could move all over the field for Arizona.
