On MLB Draft week, ESPN put together a lineup of NFL players who were also selected to play Major League Baseball before joining professional football.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who was drafted No. 8 overall by the Oakland Athletics in 2018, was on the list with star quarterbacks Tom Brady, Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes, among other players currently in the NFL.

Murray played outfield at Oklahoma, but because of his shortstop experience in high school, ESPN listed him there.

He was given the MLB player comparison of Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Starling Marte.

“He’s an easy plus runner, strong center fielder and was electric at the plate with above-average raw power, but a little too aggressive with poor pitch selection. If he hit his upside, he’d be a .260-ish hitter with 25 homers who played as an above-average center fielder — in the Victor Robles or Starling Marte area.”

While Murray was shortstop, Mahomes was the pitcher and Brady was catching.

Mahomes got a player comparison to former Diamondback Edwin Jackson, which leads to this question: Would Jackson have been a Mahomes-type quarterback talent? He certainly had the arm stamina to throw all the passes he needed, though maybe not quite 149 in one game.

Murray and Mahomes and weren’t only players to get a D-backs comparison.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston was compared to Archie Bradley while A.J. Brown, a wide receiver on the Tennessee Titans, was compared to former Diamondback A.J. Pollock.

One player who was even drafted by the Diamondbacks made ESPN’s team.

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate, who played outfield, was drafted by Arizona in the 47th round of the 2007 draft.
