For the second time this year, we’re gearing up for Opening Day in Major League Baseball.

The first time around, things didn’t go so well. The Coronavirus spread shut down baseball in the middle of spring training, about two weeks away from the magical day.

Now, a little more than four months later, Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday as the Washington Nationals host the New York Yankees while the San Francisco Giants will visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The remainder of teams will open their truncated 60-game schedules Friday.

It got us to thinking … which pitchers got the ball on Opening Day the most for each franchise?

So, you guessed it, that’s the subject of this week’s Trivia Tuesday challenge. We’ve given you the team and the number of starts each pitcher made on Opening Day. All you have to do is name the pitcher!

Another little hint: when we’re talking about franchise history, we only mean for the team in its current city. For instance, the Nationals moved to Washington in 2005, we’re not concerned about their previous existence in Montreal.

And for a couple pitchers, their Opening Day start totals include the fact they’ve been selected to pitch for their teams this year.

You’ve heard of the vast majority of these pitchers, but there are a couple curveballs mixed in (see what we did there?) You’ve got eight minutes on the clock — good luck!

There are also two pitchers on this list who are slated to start their teams’ opener this week, so the figures have been adjusted.
