Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald smiled wide as he said it and promised he wasn’t joking.

Asked if he’d feel complete as a player if he got a Super Bowl victory, the 17-year pro acknowledged it might be the end of his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

“Absolutely, that would definitely validate me. That would definitely validate me for sure,” Fitzgerald said Thursday. “You wouldn’t see me around here anymore if that happened.

“I’m just telling you, I got some other things up my sleeve. I got some big things on my agenda.”

Fitzgerald re-signed with Arizona on a one-year deal for 2020 and at the time called 2019 one of the most fun years of his career. As it’s been the last several seasons, when he’s signed one-year deals, it’s a question about whether this year will be his last.

By the looks of it, he’s quite capable of continuing on from both production and mental standpoints.

“Every day I’m happy, I really am,” he said. “To do something I truly love and enjoy it is not something I take for granted. Every time I wake up in the morning, my feet hit the ground, thank the Lord that he gives me another day. It’s not drudgery to get out of bed and go to work. I really enjoy the men that I work with.

“Got a really great group of guys. No egos, no divas, guys who want to work and put forth the effort to get better. You couple that with great coaches who happen to be great men, it makes it easy to come to work.”

Fitzgerald, 37, finished his 16th season with four receiving touchdowns and a team-leading 804 yards. He led the team with 10 catches of 20-plus yards thanks to his connection with then-rookie quarterback Kyler Murray.

Fitzgerald led the NFL in receptions in 2005 and 2016, has recorded nine 1,000-yard seasons and earned 11 Pro Bowl selections in his career thus far.

It’s a wonder if in 2020 he can add upon the 942 receiving yards over nine career playoff games.
