Patrick Peterson’s podcast All Things Covered with former Cardinals teammate Bryant McFadden is filled with goodies from Arizona’s win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The full video of this week’s episode, featuring Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins, you can find here (explicit language warning).

One area of the conversation focused on Peterson’s own performance in the game, which included a terrific job on Seattle’s D.K. Metcalf, but also his coverage on two of the best throws + catches of the season from Russell Wilson to Tyler Lockett.

On the first play of the game, Lockett made a 34-yard catch on a ridiculous throw and even more ridiculous catch.

Here’s P2’s breakdown of it.

“Lockett made a heck of a catch and Russell made one of the best throws that I’ve had to defend in a long, long time,” he said. “From the first play, if anybody go watch that back, I quick jammed him.”

In the above clip, you’ll Peterson played Lockett aggressive off the line. That was because of the coverage the Cardinals were in, so he got into Lockett’s chest at the line and still managed to be in the right spot still as the ball was coming.

Peterson spoke on a handful of little tricks he used on the play, and even then, still not being able to stop the completion.

“And [Lockett] actually threw me off my tracks because I was up to his shoulder … but he ran through us, so that kind of put me back on the low hip. But with me having some of my savvy vet skills, I got my hands low a little bit, pulled myself back in position.

“And right when I was getting in position, I heard the ball, I heard ‘Ball! Ball! Ball!’ And right when I look up, it was coming down, and I had his right hand clenched a little bit to where he had to make a one-handed catch.

“I see the ball literally come down at the corner of my eye and I just tried to get my hand in there. And it was so crazy, I saw it go right into his arm. He didn’t catch it; it went straight into the pocket.”

On the slow-motion replay below, you’ll see Peterson’s left arm on Lockett’s right as he said, followed by the moment when Peterson heard the ball was coming.

To give Lockett some extra credit that Peterson didn’t, though, Lockett did extend his arm a bit to make the catch away from his body.

Lockett had a grab in the second quarter that was his second touchdown of the day, another where Peterson was right there in coverage.

Peterson’s left arm barely missed the ball, and as the cornerback showed with his body language by putting his arms up on the ground after the catch, there’s nothing you can do about it.

But, of course, since Peterson was the defender on a few deep connections for Seattle, that was where some criticism emerged on social media.

He had something to say about that.

“Those were just tough, contested throws,” he said. “People are like, ‘Oh, you got burned, you got beat, you got this, you got that, you suck.’ The (expletive) are you talking about?

Guys get paid to catch the ball too. And Russell and these quarterbacks are good enough to put the ball in those types of spots. I’ve seen Cy Young winners give up home runs. Does that mean that they suck? I’ve seen Hall of Famers give up touchdowns, does that mean that they suck? But remember this, there’s only 47 all-decade DBs in the league, and guess who’s one of them?”
