After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for
August 27, 2011: Diamondbacks 3, Padres 1
The Good:
Chris Young had a big night for the D-backs. His two hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth, put him on par with Miguel Montero and Willie Bloomquist, who also had two hits.
Starting pitcher Joe Saunders threw a solid game and gave his team a chance to win. In his seven innings, he only gave up four hits and no runs. Chances are if the starter throws a shutout, he has a pretty good shot at getting the win. Saunders is now 9-11 on the season.
The Bad:
D-backs reliever and emergency closer David Hernandez was forced to leave the game in the eighth inning after being struck by a line drive. Though the injury was similar to that suffered by Jason Marquis, Hernandez is expected to be back in the lineup at the conclusion of the homestand on Wednesday.
The Ugly:
A fan interfered with a foul ball that was within Justin Upton’s reach. After the play, the fan, who was wearing a Padres hat, seemed to be taunting Upton. Pretty bold for a team with a 60-73 record and sitting in the basement of the NL West.
