Diamondbacks ride momentum into Milwaukee

Back in Milwaukee, after two games in Arizona, the Diamondbacks are playing like a different team since they left.

Riding a two game winning streak and playing in the final game of the series, the Diamondbacks feel confident they can steal one against the Brewers in their own park.

“It’s obvious that in the first two games they had all the momentum,” said shortstop Willie Bloomquist. “We were able to put a stop to that when we got back to our place.”

It may come as no surprise to anyone who followed this team all season that the Diamondbacks have been able to stave off elimination and win both games at home to even up the series.

Bloomquist compared the series to this season in which the team led the league in comeback victories with 48.

“It’s similar to how this series has gone so far, we got down early and dug ourselves a little bit of a hole but we’re figuring out a way to crawl out of it,” said Bloomquist.

The Diamondbacks feel even more confident knowing they have their number one starter, Ian Kennedy, on the mound tonight.

“I think we’re extremely confident, he’s been our horse all season long,” said closer J.J. Putz. “Ian’s the guy you want on the hill in a game five elimination game.”

Game five features a rematch of the game one starters, Kennedy and Yovani Gallardo.

“We’ve got our number one guy against their number one guy,” said manager Kirk Gibson.

The two battled in a close game before Kennedy was pulled after giving up four runs through 6.2 innings. The Brewers won the game 4-1.

Now the first two games in Milwaukee don’t matter as much and the Diamondbacks only have to win this game to advance to the National League Championship Series.

“I said at the beginning of the series that we wanted to win three out of the next five and that’s what they’re here for,” said Gibson.
