Gibson: D-backs have to buy in to be successful

As the baseball season approaches and Spring Training gets started, expectations are high for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

They have been touted as the favorites to win the NL West and possibly heading to the World Series. There’s a buzz in the Valley and spring games are already selling out.

But there’s one person who knows the team needs to take a few key steps before they start talking accolades.

“We have to put a lot of work in, because a lot of teams are very good,” said D-backs manager Kirk Gibson.

While Gibby did say that a lot of his guys came into camp looking better and more advanced than they did last year, he knows a talented team can’t get you anywhere unless they buy in to the D-backs and his program.

“We have to do it the same way we did last year as far as the way we approach things,” he said. “How dedicated they were, how they bought in and became one.”

He didn’t go into detail as to how the team was doing thus far, likely because just a few days is a tough gauge, but if last year taught us — and Gibby — anything, it’s the old adage of “it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
