The Arizona Wildcats’ search for a new men’s basketball head coach is underway.

After firing Sean Miller on Wednesday, the Wildcats on Thursday interviewed former player and coach Damon Stoudamire for the position, according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

The university will also sit down with Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Miles Simon and Gonzaga associate head coach Tommy Lloyd, Goodman reported.

Stoudamire played his collegiate basketball at the University of Arizona from 1991-95.

For the last five seasons, he has been coaching the Pacific Tigers men’s basketball team in Stockton, California.

Stoudamire’s overall record as head coach for the Tigers stands at 71-77.

Prior to a pandemic-shortened 9-9 season this year, Stoudamire had his best year yet with the Tigers, leading them to a 23-10 record for the 2019-20 season.

In 123 career games for the Wildcats, Stoudamire averaged 15 points per game, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals.

Arizona made the NCAA tournament every year with Stoudamire as their point guard.

In 1994, led by Stoudamire and Khalid Reeves, the Wildcats made it to the NCAA Final Four before losing to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the National semifinals.

Stoudamire returned to his alma mater in 2013 as an assistant coach and helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back 30 win seasons.
