Offensive omission: D-backs’ bats non-existant, lose eighth straight at Dodger Stadium: By the Numbers

For a guy making only his third start this season, Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Robbie Ray wasn’t half bad despite being handed a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night.

Though it was shakiest outing to date, Ray was rock solid through six innings, demonstrating a knack for avoiding trouble and surrendering only one run that had the D-backs knotted up at 1-1 heading into the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning, however, the pitching touch that Ray had exhibited in earlier in the game seemingly began to elude him. After homering in the sixth, Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick singled to center, scoring Chris Heisey and Yasiel Puig to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Ray exited the game having lasted 6.2 innings (a career-high), allowing two earned runs on four hits, striking out four.

For once though, pitching wasn’t the issue.

On this night, Arizona’s offense simply failed to manufacture runs, as the D-backs’ only run of the game came in the second inning after a wild pitch from Dodgers starter Carlos Frias scored Jarrod Saltalamacchia from third.

Tuesday’s 3-1 loss marked the eighth straight loss for the D-backs at Dodger Stadium. In fact, the D-backs have lost 12 of their last 13 contests taking place at Chavez Ravine.

It was only his third start of the season, but the 23-year-old Ray boasted another strong performance despite his inexperience. Through three starts this year, Ray has a 1.53 ERA to go along with 13 strikeouts. He suffered his first loss of the season Tuesday (1-1).

Going 2-for-4 against the Dodgers in game two of the D-backs’ three-game series in Los Angeles, D-backs centerfielder Ender Inciarte has reached base safely in 12 straight starts versus the Dodgers.

Speaking of guys reaching base safely, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has now reached base safely in 13 straight games at Dodger Stadium following his 1-for-4 effort.

Shockingly, Goldschmidt was unable to draw a walk against the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Over his last 10 games, Goldschmidt has reached base 15 times via walk.

The D-backs’ record when tied after six innings. Leading 1-0 before reaching the sixth inning, the Dodgers tied the game on a solo shot from Kendrick.
