The Pulse: Suns fans say team needs to make big move after missing out on LaMarcus Aldridge

The odds were never really stacked in their favor, but the Phoenix Suns did more than what many expected of them in making their play for free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who ultimately agreed to a max deal with the San Antonio Spurs last Saturday.

Now, however, is the tough part: “Where does Phoenix go from here?”

We asked that very question in our Sanderson Ford Poll Question, and fans of the orange and purple have spoken.

Of the 1,273 votes cast, 55 percent (694 votes) said the Suns need to make a big move this offseason in order elevate the team well into playoff contention. Meanwhile, 39 percent (493 voters) said the Suns need to only make small changes, while a scant seven percent (86 voters) said the team should stand pat the rest of the offseason.

After coming up on the losing end after putting all of their free agent eggs in Aldridge’s proverbial basket, the vast majority agrees that, on some level, the Suns must regroup and find a way to improve a roster that by just about every account underachieved last season. While the big move doesn’t appear it will happen this summer, the Suns have been active in reinforcing and re-tooling their roster since the free agency period began on July 1.

The Suns have not only re-signed guard Brandon Knight, but they’ve also agreed to terms with former NBA Defensive Player of the Year and Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler to help bolster a frontcourt in desperate need of depth.

Phoenix has also reportedly agreed to short-term deals with swingman Sonny Weems and backup point guard Ronnie Price.

In June, the Suns selected Kentucky shooting guard Devin Booker with the 13th overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft, who will make his NBA Summer League debut with Phoenix this upcoming Saturday.
