Fifth inning dooms Corbin and the Diamondbacks against the Mets Saturday: By the Numbers

Pitching before family and friends, New York native Patrick Corbin was looking good against the New York Mets Saturday afternoon.

Corbin, in his second start after coming back from Tommy John surgery retired 10 of the first 13 hitters he faced and looked great heading into the fifth inning.

However, that’s when things turned for him after he gave up a leadoff home run to Lucas Duda to start the inning.
Four batters later, Corbin gave up a home run to Mets’ starter Matt Harvey. That was Harvey’s first career home run.

Corbin allowed a solo home run to Ruben Tejada to start the sixth that gave the Mets the lead en route to a 4-2 win.

Corbin (1-1) ended the day pitching five innings, giving up four runs on four hits — all four were earned. He struck out five and walked one.

David Peralta’s two-run home run in the second inning were the only runs Harvey allowed. Harvey improved to 8-6 on the year, pitching seven innings, giving up five hits. He struck out nine and walked two.
