The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled utility man Andrew Young from the Triple-A Reno Aces on Tuesday.
Additionally, the team optioned pitcher Alex Young to the Aces following Monday night’s 7-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
In 26 games this season, Andrew Young is hitting .206 with a .945 OPS. He’s tallied four home runs, nine RBIs, seven runs scored and four walks, while striking out 18 times.
The move comes after Arizona placed outfielder Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring on Monday.
Alex Young heads back to Reno after picking up the loss on Monday. In 3.0 innings pitched, he allowed six earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out two.
In 29 games (two starts) this season, Alex Young is 2-6 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.603 WHIP over 38.2 innings pitched.
Since snapping their 24-game road losing streak with a 10-1 win over the San Diego Padres last Saturday, Arizona has combined for just five runs the previous two outings, both resulting in losses.
Arizona will look to even its series with the Cardinals on Tuesday night.
