The Arizona Cardinals announced Thursday that cornerback Tae Hayes was released, while fellow corner and undrafted rookie Lorenzo Burns was activated from the COVID-19 reserve.

Burns, who played collegiately for the Arizona Wildcats, initially went on the COVID-19 list on July 23. The Cardinals still have offensive lineman Shaq Calhoun and receiver Rico Gafford listed on the COVID-19 reserve.

Over five games as a senior for the Wildcats last year, Burns posted 24 tackles with two for loss. He recorded a total of 191 tackles and nine interceptions with eight tackles for loss in his 42 games at UA.

Hayes tried out for the Cardinals during rookie minicamp in May before signing with the team.

The 5-foot-9, 188-pounder spent time with the Miami Dolphins (two games) and Minnesota Vikings (one game) in 2020. He was also a member of the teams’ practice squads.

Hayes, 23, got his start with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Appalachian State in 2019.

He played one game for Jacksonville before he was released. Hayes was later claimed by the Dolphins and played in two games for Miami that season.

In six career games, Hayes has recorded 10 tackles, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
