The Arizona Cardinals made their first round of cuts Monday morning with the roster needing to be reduced to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon, and 2019 draft pick KeeSean Johnson is among the more notable players released.
Veteran safety Chris Banjo was another surprise cut. His release was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Arizona’s second-round draft pick from 2019, Andy Isabella, who could be on the cut line, remains on the roster.
Johnson, the 174th overall choice (sixth round) in 2019, has combined for 36 receptions and 360 yards with a touchdown over two NFL seasons.
There are now seven receivers left on the roster: DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green, Christian Kirk, Rondale Moore, Antoine Wesley, Greg Dortch and Isabella.
Banjo was a core member of the team’s special teams unit who made a career-high 48 tackles last season, as he was called upon to play for an injury-stricken defensive backfield.
Other notable players released early Monday include 2021 seventh-round pick Michal Menet, 2020 sixth-round pick Evan Weaver and backup punter Ryan Winslow.
