The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Frías from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, the team announced.

In a corresponding move, the D-backs optioned infielder Andrew Young to Triple-A.

Frías is a 23-year-old from Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic. He has pitched for High-A Hillsboro, Double-A Amarillo and Reno this season, but he has yet to make his MLB debut.

MLB Pipeline and Baseball America have him ranked 13th on the D-backs top prospects list.

From Pipeline:

If he continues to command his secondary pitches and stick with the adjustments he’s made this season, it’s easy to see him as a future starter, but if not he could be a valuable backend bullpen piece.

Frías has been able to rack up strikeouts this year, accumulating 10.2 per nine innings in the minor leagues. He has two Pitcher of the Week awards, one for Hillsboro and another for Amarillo.

However, he has struggled with walks since he got promoted to Triple-A, having 16 in 21.2 innings pitched.

His overall ERA on the season is 4.93 in 23 starts. It was 5.82 in Reno.

Young has 91 at-bats in 51 games played with the D-backs this season. He is batting .209 with a .782 OPS. He has 19 hits, 13 of which are for extra bases.

But, Young had just two hits over his last 21 plate appearances.

The D-backs continue their three-game series with the Houston Astros at 4:10 p.m. MST on Saturday from Texas. The D-backs return home from their nine-game road trip on Monday when they face the Atlanta Braves.

Saturday night’s game will air live on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
