Phoenix Rising FC and head coach Rick Schantz have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the club through 2024, the team announced.

In four seasons with Phoenix, Schantz has accumulated 70 USL wins, two Western Conference titles, one regular-season title, one Coach of the Year and held a 20-match win streak.

Schantz currently has Rising in first place in the league table, posting a 20-5-5 record in 2021 including an unbeaten streak at home (11-0-3).

The Arizona native played soccer in Tucson at Salpointe Catholic High School before playing at the University of Portland.

Schantz was named interim head coach on June 10, 2018 before having the interim tag removed on Nov. 14, 2018.

Rising has been the highest-scoring pro soccer franchise in North America since 2019, accumulating 195 goals in the last three seasons, according to the team.

“Rick has been an integral part of Phoenix Rising since its inception,” said Rising GM Bobby Dulle in a press release. “We are thrilled to extend his contract. He has tremendous passion for this club and he’s proven to be a consistent winner in this league. Rick provides continuity and stability as the leader of our team. We are excited to see him continue to guide Phoenix Rising to unprecedented heights.”
