San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle will be activated from injured reserve before the team’s game on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and is set to play, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday.

Kittle had missed the 49ers’ last three games due to a calf injury. The two-time Pro Bowler has 19 receptions for 227 yards in his four games played this season.

Despite Kittle’s prowess as one of the best tight ends in football and being in the NFC West, he hasn’t quite been that star against the Cardinals yet in his career.

Across seven games against Arizona, Kittle’s numbers are 29 receptions for 417 yards and one touchdown. That’s an average of 4.1 catches and 59.6 receiving yards per game facing the Cardinals. He has not reached 100 yards receiving in any of those games and recorded under 50 yards in three of those seven appearances.

Kittle did not play in the Cardinals’ Week 5 win over the 49ers.

With the 49ers at 3-4 and behind the 7-1 Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams in the division standings, it’s a significant game for them and a big boost to get Kittle back.

Kickoff on Sunday is set for 2:25 p.m. and you can hear the action on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
