Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Mark Trumbo: By the numbers

Dec 11, 2013, 2:26 AM | Updated: 5:38 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks found the power bat they so desperately coveted heading into the offseason, as they acquired Mark Trumbo in a three-team trade with the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels.

As part of the deal, the D-backs sent outfielder Adam Eaton to the White Sox and 22-year-old left-hander Tyler Skaggs to the Angels.

Here’s a look at Trumbo’s career by the numbers:

2:

Trumbo hit a career high 34 home runs and 100 RBI in 2013, giving the D-backs two of the seven players to hit at least 30 home runs and 100 RBI last season. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt (36 home runs and 125 RBI) also achieved the feat.

4:

Playing in the Freeway Series for each of the last three seasons, Trumbo is well-accustomed to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff. That’s not necessarily a good thing for Arizona.

Trumbo is 4-of-32 with nine strikeouts against Los Angeles, including 0-of-7 when facing reigning Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw.

5:

In terms of the batting order, Trumbo has done the most damage out of the No. 5 hole. In that slot, the former 18th-round pick has 625 at bats with a .263 batting average, 32 home runs and 93 RBI.

Trumbo also has 33 home runs and 97 RBI at out of the No. 4 hole, but his batting average dips to .237.

18:

Although he hits 18 percent higher against left-handing pitcher, Trumbo has better power numbers (63 home runs and 191 RBI) against right-handing pitching.

.299

In three seasons with Los Angeles, Trumbo failed to get on base even a third of the time he came to the plate. In fact, from 2011-2013, he fell below the league average. For his career, Trumbo has a .299 on-base percentage.

276:

With Goldschmidt already firmly holding down first base, Trumbo will be asked to play the outfield with the D-backs. In his career, the 27-year-old has played 276 career games in the outfield, including a career-high 101 between left and right field in 2012.

As an outfielder, Trumbo has a career fielding percentage of .976 with five errors in 209 chances.

2012

In just his second big league season, Trumbo made the 2012 American League All-Star team. That season, he hit .268 with 32 home runs and 95 RBI.

2016

One of the major positives of the three-team deal for Arizona is that Trumbo will be under team control through the 2016 season.
