The Arizona Cardinals activated running back Chase Edmonds and placed wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and cornerback Robert Alford on injured reserve in a series of roster moves made Saturday afternoon.

Edmonds was designated to return from injured reserve last week and is now set to play for the first time since Week 9.

He injured his ankle on Arizona’s first play from scrimmage against the San Francisco 49ers. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said on Friday that he felt good about Edmonds’ chances of playing against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Edmonds is averaging 5.7 yards per carry this season with 30 receptions. His return will also help Arizona manage running back James Conner’s workload.

Hopkins’ regular season is reportedly over after he suffered a knee injury on Monday night that required surgery.

Kingsbury did not have a timetable for his recovery, although general manager Steve Keim told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo that he will not rule the All-Pro out for a playoff return.

Alford suffered a pectoral injury and missed practice this week. He was out for all of 2020 after going down with a pectoral injury in training camp.

The veteran corner has played in all 13 Cardinals games to this point in the season.

The Cardinals also activated safety Charles Washington from the designated to return list. His primary role is on special teams.

Arizona called up cornerback Kevin Peterson as a standard practice squad elevation and linebacker Joe Walker as a COVID-19 replacement for center Rodney Hudson, as well.

Peterson has not taken the field this season, but he played in 12 games for Arizona last year. Walker, meanwhile, has played eight games for the Cardinals in 2021 after signing to the practice squad on Oct. 13.
