The Phoenix Suns next Wednesday will honor play-by-play broadcaster and Ring of Honor member Al McCoy for calling his 50th season as radio voice of the team.

Phoenix hosts the Portland Trail Blazers for an 8 p.m. tip at Footprint Center.

McCoy, who is currently the longest-tenured broadcaster for an NBA team, began calling games for the Suns in September 1972.

For the night to honor McCoy, who is a noted fan of jazz music, those in attendance can enjoy a halftime performance by Jazz Con Alma, while saxophonist Trey Daniels will perform the national anthem before the contest.

The first 10,000 fans who enter Footprint Center will receive a “Shazam” placard courtesy of Arizona Sports.

Additionally, a limited run of t-shirts and lapel pins celebrating McCoy’s 50th season on the job will be available at the team shop.

McCoy was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2017. He received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Suns named their press room the Al McCoy Media Center in 2007.
