Paul Goldschmidt has been named the Arizona Diamondbacks 2014 Heart and Hustle Award Winner by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

The only award voted on by former players, it is given to active players who show a passion for and honor the values, spirit and tradition of the game.

“His play on the field and community service exemplify what a true big leaguer should be,” former D-backs left fielder and current special assistant Luis Gonzalez said in a press release. “On and off the field, he is an example for young players to follow.”

Goldschmidt, who is hitting .310 with 18 home runs and 65 RBI this season, will be acknowledged before an upcoming D-backs home game. He is one of 30 players selected, one from each MLB team, who will vie for the overall award announced on Nov. 18 in New York City.
