The Arizona Diamondbacks have found their new manager, as the team announced it has hired Chip Hale for the post.

Hale, 49, has spent the last three seasons as the bench coach for the Oakland Athletics under manager Bob Melvin.

Our own John Gambadoro has details on Hale’s contract.

Prior to his stint in Oakland, Hale spent six seasons as a minor league manager in the Diamondbacks organization. He guided the Tucson Sidewinders to a PCL and Triple-A championship in 2006 when the team finished with a franchise-best record of 91-53. He also served under Melvin as the D-backs’ bench coach for one season in 2007.

He has a career minor league managerial record of 405-317 with Missoula, El Paso and Tucson.

Hale was a 17th-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins out of the University of Arizona in 1987. In seven major league seasons, he batted .277 with seven home runs and 78 RBI. He spent six seasons in Minnesota and wrapped up his career by appearing in 14 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1997.

He becomes the seventh manager in Diamondbacks history.
