After the Arizona Diamondbacks signed 24-year-old Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas to a six-year, $68.5 million deal, speculation of Mark Trumbo’s future with the team began to circle immediately.

The questions relate directly to the seemingly identical molds of the two players, who are touted for their power at the plate and criticized for their defensive abilities. Both Tomas and Trumbo are right-handed.

The pairing of the two sluggers in the outfield may cause major problems defensively for the D-backs, given their weaknesses in the field.

In the wake of the Tomas signing, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the D-backs look to trade Trumbo, who will be 29 on Opening Day.

One ESPN writer lists the Miami Marlins, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers as potential suitors.

Regarding potential returns, the story proffers:

Trumbo shouldn’t be too expensive to acquire, with the D-backs probably looking for pitching prospects or young, major-league ready arms. He’s not a star and was overrated during his Angels days, but every team seems to be seeking right-handed power, and Trumbo provides that.
