Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder David Peralta exited Monday’s 7-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds after appearing to injure himself while making a diving catch.

The D-backs said Peralta was removed due to back spasms.

In the bottom of the third inning with two outs, Peralta ran down a ball hit by Reds center fielder Albert Almora Jr. and made the catch.

The ball had some movement on it, and with wet grass, Peralta wasn’t able to brace himself for the sliding catch. His torso took the full impact of the fall.

After he caught the ball, Peralta stayed down with his stomach on the grass for a few extra moments.

Peralta got up while holding the left side of his ribs and made his way back to the dugout on his own.

When the bottom of the fourth inning came, Cooper Hummel replaced Peralta in left field.

Peralta entered Monday second on the D-backs in OPS at .773 to go with eight home runs and 24 RBIs.
