Cardinals’ Dockett ‘doubtful’ for Miami game

Sep 28, 2012, 9:36 PM | Updated: 10:48 pm

It doesn’t look good for Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett to be on the field Sunday against the Miami Dolphins at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Dockett left last Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury and hasn’t practiced at all this week.

When the Friday injury report was released, Dockett was officially listed as “doubtful”.

So how much drop-off should we expect if #90 isn’t on the field Sunday?

“I hope none,” Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton said following practice Friday. “I know he’s a very good player, but I hope none.”

Dockett has been a stalwart in the middle of the Cardinals defensive line since he was a third round draft pick out of Florida State in 2004, missing just one out of a possible 131 games in his career.

If he can’t go, Horton is confident that others, like David Carter and Vonnie Holliday, will step up.

“From way back when in training camp we stressed we have a bunch of starters and guys trying to make the team,” he said. “Now, everybody’s on the team, that’s made the team, so obviously we have a bunch of starters.”

Dockett has shown the ability to play through pain throughout his career, so it is still possible he plays Sunday.

“I’m not the doctor, I don’t think he could play, he hasn’t taken a snap,” Horton said. “But hypothetically, if he could play, sure he would play.”
