Arizona Cardinals lineman Will Hernandez will not be fined after his involvement in the scuffle on Sunday with Carolina Panthers LB Frankie Luvu that led to the guard’s ejection.
The skirmish started when Luvu threw Cardinals RB James Conner to the ground after the play had started.
Hernandez went to protect his teammate and eventually hit a ref in his pursuit of the Panthers’ linebacker.
“Something happened to one of our guys, so that’s how I react,” Hernandez said.
“I take it personally, that’s my boy, that’s my teammate. These are my guys, it means more than playing a game.”
Luvu was fined $10,609, the amount the league gives out for first-time offenders of a later hit.
Luvu was not ejected and had a big impact on the game prior to the incident.
He recorded a pick-six on Cardinals QB Kyler Murray that gave the Panthers the lead at the half. This was the only touchdown Carolina had for the first 55 minutes of the game
He also led the Panthers will 11 tackles (six solo), one tackle for loss and one pass defended. He was the only player in the game to total double-digit tackles.
