With the NFL trade deadline looming on Nov. 1, The Athletic recently published a list compiled by its writers of “one compelling trade target from each team.”
For the Arizona Cardinals (3-4), The Athletic picked running back Darrel Williams as the leading candidate to be dealt to another team.
Arizona, which signed Williams to a one-year deal in May, has used him sparingly this season. Plus, he’s missed the past two games because of injury.
Williams notched eight rushes vs. the Raiders in Week 2 but has carried the ball only eight times since. He has caught only two passes for three yards.
Eno Benjamin has emerged as the No. 2 back behind James Conner, who also is injured. Keaontay Ingram has been getting more carries lately, too, while Williams recovers from a sprained knee he suffered in Week 5 vs. Philadelphia.
Writer Doug Haller of The Athletic notes: “In four seasons with Kansas City, Williams showed he can be an impactful playmaker, it just hasn’t translated to the desert.”
So, who are some potential trading partners who may be interested in acquiring Williams from Arizona? The Rams, Lions, Panthers, Broncos and Ravens come to mind as teams that might be looking for help in the ball-carrying department.
