D-backs can’t finish comeback, lose in 15 innings: By the Numbers

Beating the Pirates in Pittsburgh is a tough feat to do once, let alone twice.
The Arizona Diamondbacks recently defeated the Pirates on Monday night, which gave them just their 19th home loss of the season, the second fewest in baseball.
And it stayed at 19 after the Pirates defeated the D-backs 9-8 in 15 innings at PNC Park on Tuesday night thanks to a walk-off triple from Pedro Florimon.
D-backs pitcher Keith Hessler got the first two batters out in the 15th inning before giving up a base hit to Francisco Cervelli, before Florimon whacked a hit off the right field wall to bring home the winning run.
The Pirates needed 15 innings thanks to a huge D-backs comeback that saw them overcome a 8-3 deficit in the final two innings.
After a rough start for Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano, in which he gave up three runs in the first two innings, he settled down and kept the D-backs off the board until the 8th inning when the Snakes tallied three runs off Liriano and the Pirates bullpen.
Paul Goldschmidt was able to tie the game in the ninth when a line drive went off the glove of Pirates first baseman Sean Rodriguez that brought in the games tying runs.
The D-backs MVP candidate then sent the game into extra-innings when he made a game-saving catch on a line drive that would have scored the game-winning run for the Pirates.
