The Arizona Cardinals placed cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. on injured reserve, ending his season with three games remaining, the team announced Saturday.
Arizona signed defensive lineman Michael Dogbe to the active roster from the practice squad to replace Murphy Jr. on the 53-man team. Cornerback Nate Hairston and kick returner Pharoh Cooper were elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Murphy Jr. has not played since Week 9 due to a back issue.
The 2019 second-round pick missed one defensive snap throughout the first nine games of the season. He had one of the highlights of a down 2022 campaign for the Cardinals, as he returned a fumble for the game-winning touchdown in overtime against the Raiders in Week 2.
Murphy Jr. is an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Hairston, Marco Wilson, Christian Matthew and Jace Whittaker will make up Arizona’s cornerback corps this week, and Antonio Hamilton is questionable (back).
Arizona’s injured reserve now sits at 13 players, including quarterback Kyler Murray and center Rodney Hudson.
Dobge returns to the active roster after he was released on Nov. 10. He has played in 10 games this season.
The Christmas Day game kicks off at 6:20 p.m. and will air on Arizona Sports 98.7, the Arizona Sports app and ArizonaSports.com.
