PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns will be without Bradley Beal (low back tightness) for the season opener against the Golden State Warriors while Devin Booker (left big toe soreness) will play.
Booker and Beal were both listed as questionable for the opener on Monday. Booker told azcentral’s Duane Rankin on Tuesday after shootaround he would play. Beal missed two separate preseason games due to his back while the injury designation for Booker is new.
Reserve guard Grayson Allen will start in Beal’s spot, per Rankin.
Head coach Frank Vogel said after Sunday’s practice that both Beal and Booker were limited due to their injuries. Both practiced on Monday and Vogel noted he was hopeful both would be able to play.
Vogel was asked about how the injury came about for Booker and did not elaborate.
With the Suns assembling a Big 3 around Booker, Beal and Kevin Durant, there were always going to be concerns over the injury histories of Beal and Durant specifically. Booker last season missed 29 games after averaging 67 appearances a year over the previous four. A nagging groin injury turned into a long-term absence across late December through to early February.
The Warriors are already without Draymond Green due to an ankle sprain in late September.
