The Arizona Diamondbacks got Rubby De La Rosa’s first great outing of the season Saturday night in their 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

That wasn’t the only breakthrough individual performance for the D-backs, however.

Backup catcher Chris Herrmann had two hits and 4 RBI, including a three-run homer that effectively sealed the game in the eighth inning.

“I’m thankful to have two really good hitting coaches like them and we’ve been working on some adjustments and thankfully it paid off tonight,” Herrmann said after the game, crediting hitting coaches Dave Magadan and Mark Grace.

The breakthrough was needed for the backup catcher, who had only reached base twice in his first 20 at-bats of the season.

Herrmann has been working on his swing, trying to be the first one in the batting cages and always showing up for the extra hitting sessions.

“I’ve got to take every advantage that I can to prepare myself to be ready for the game,” Herrmann said.

The 28-year-old spent his first four seasons in the majors playing for the Minnesota Twins, spending time in the minor leagues in each season.
