ASU over USC was biggest win in Erickson’s tenure

TEMPE – The ASU Sun Devils’ huge win over the USC Trojans was “without question” the biggest in coach Dennis Erickson’s tenure in Tempe.
“Anytime you win a game like that where you haven’t beaten that team for 11 years, that’s a long drought. Obviously, the biggest win that I’ve had since I’ve been the coach here and I’m sure it was exciting for all our fans who have watched that rivalry for the last 11 years,” said coach Dennis Erickson on the Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo show Tuesday.
The Sun Devils players used all the USC trash talk leading into the game as motivation.
“They read it, no question about it. I’m sure that it helped us,” said Erickson.
ASU has been a team that has struggled in recent years to maintain discipline, but didn’t fall prey to USC’s antics last week.
“We did it the right way. We didn’t say anything and just went out and played football,” said Erickson.
ASU’s win over USC lifted quarterback Brock Osweiler into the spotlight as a potential NFL quarterback.
“He’s a very good young quarterback that is getting better all the time. He’s only played five, six games. He has a chance to be a great quarterback as time goes on. He’s a great leader,” said Erickson.
With a big game looming in two weeks against Utah it will be interesting if the Sun Devis can avoid a letdown against the lowly Oregon State Beavers.
