If there’s one thing the Phoenix Suns consistently do well, it’s drafting guards from the University of Kentucky.

The Suns added Tyler Ulis with the 34th pick of the NBA Draft Thursday evening, much to Devin Booker’s delight.

Ulis joins Booker, Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight and Archie Goodwin as former Kentucky Wildcats on the Suns’ roster. GM Ryan McDonough addressed the Kentucky trend for the team after the selection of Ulis.

“I felt like it been too long since we drafted a Kentucky guard,” McDonough joked.

The 20-year-old averaged 17.3 points and three rebounds per game last season for a Kentucky team that went 27-9 and lost to Indiana in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He captured both the SEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Ulis is projected to spend time in the D-League with a crowded backcourt of Knight, Bledsoe and Booker.
