The College Football Playoff Committee took notice of Arizona State’s impressive win over Notre Dame last Saturday.
As a result of their 55-31 win over the Fighting Irish, the Sun Devils have moved up to No. 6 in this week’s rankings which were released Tuesday.
Mississippi State, Oregon, Florida State, TCU and Alabama rank ahead of the Sun Devils.
For the first time ever, there will be a four-team playoff to determine college football’s national champion. The rankings are determined by a 12-member committee comprised of athletic directors (Jeff Long, Barry Alvarez, Pat Haden, Oliver Luck and Dan Radakovich), former coaches (Tyrone Willingham and Tom Osborne), a former conference commissioner (Mike Tranghese), a former reporter (Steve Weiberg) and other heads of state and administrators (Michael C. Gould, Tom Jernstedt and Condoleezza Rice).
