The Arizona Wildcats and Virginia Tech Hokies will play a home-and-home football series in 2029-2030, the schools announced on Wednesday.
Arizona will host the Sept. 8, 2029, game before heading to Blacksburg, Va., on Aug. 30, 2030. The games will mark the first two meetings between the football teams.
There are connections between the Rich Rodriguez-led Wildcats and current Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock. They worked together at West Virginia, and there were even rumors of Virginia Tech wooing the UA head coach in November of 2015.
The Wildcats have only played ACC teams five times, winning all of those games. They last squared off against ACC representative Boston College in the 2013 AdvoCare V100 Bowl.
It’s been a busy summer for Arizona in terms of filling out its future schedule. Athletic director Greg Byrne and Rodriguez have added games against Kansas State in 2024-25 and another home-and-home with Nebraska for the 2028 and 2031 seasons.
Arizona opened its fall camp Wednesday in preparation for the 2016 season.
