High school football players step up to make cancer-stricken cheerleader’s day

Sep 9, 2016, 9:54 AM

Ashley Adamietz had no idea what was going to happen.

But what did was amazing.

The Foothill High School senior cheerleader was diagnosed with leukemia, and before a recent football game, the players — while walking onto the field — made sure to show their support for her by giving her orange roses.

The color orange is associated with leukemia awareness.

According to WTHR.com, the plan was organized by player Ryan Caetano, though the entire team was for the idea.

“She’s part of the Cougar family, so why not let her know that we’re all here for her. We are. So I wanted to let that be known to everybody, and especially to her, for what she’s going through.”

In a tweet, which is screen captured on ESPN.com, Adamietz wrote that she was unaware of the plan, which left her “shocked, overwhelmed and over all(sic) speechless.”
