Cards would like Edwards, but not at expense of Fitzgerald

The Arizona Cardinals would like to sign free agent receiver Braylon Edwards, there’s just one problem:

They still have to sign Larry Fitzgerald to a contract extension.

According to Sports 620 KTAR’s John Gambadoro, the Cardinals do not want to risk losing their star receiver, and because of that are reluctant to pay Edwards the big money he is seeking.

So, while Edwards begins to look elsewhere, including the 49ers and — shocker — the Eagles, the Cardinals will work on getting No. 11 to sign on the dotted line.

If and when that does happen, or maybe before if the price is right, Gambadoro says the Cardinals will turn their attention to Chargers free agent Malcolm Floyd.

Floyd may be a better option anyway for the Cardinals, as the 6-foot-5 wideout appears to be coming into his own as a deep threat, which is something Arizona could really use.

And whether the Cardinals sign Edwards, Floyd or someone else, Gambadoro says the Cardinals will add a veteran receiver sometime soon.

While the Cardinals appear to have a plan, the fear would have to be their seemingly one-track mind. Yes, signing Fitzgerald to a contract extension is important, but the team cannot afford to work on that while ignoring everything else.
