Arizona Cardinals linebacker John Abraham left Monday night’s game due to concussion-like symptoms, and Tuesday head coach Bruce Arians said the veteran was going through the league’s concussion protocol.

Unfortunately, that may be the last time anyone sees Abraham as an Arizona Cardinal.

Abraham, 36, suffered the injury in the third quarter of the game.

The linebacker had a somewhat tumultuous offseason, and reported to training camp late due to legal issues stemming from a DUI in Georgia.

However, he was expected to help anchor a Cardinals defense that lost a considerable amount of talent in the offseason, so him being gone would be a substantial blow to what Arizona is trying to do.

However, if Abraham is indeed suffering from memory loss and other concussion-related symptoms, he is certainly right to take time off — and possibly call it a career.

Because Abraham has left the team, the Cardinals received a temporary roster exemption which they used to re-sign linebacker Marcus Benard.

Benard was released in the final round of roster cuts. The 29-year-old appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals last season, tallying 17 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. A veteran of four NFL seasons, the linebacker has amassed 62 total tackles and 14 sacks.
